On a leash
Based on a clear lined woodprint by a female artist of the 1920's
Background
The woodcuts of Julie de Graag (1877-1924) are simple. Using clear lines, she created stylized natural representations. This terrier (1920) is a beautiful example of this. With a few lines and details, De Graag created a striking dog’s head. Her work is characterized by an expressive, powerful linework and an increasingly advanced stylization. The simplicity contributes to its beauty. Stylistically, De Graag’s work can be placed between Art Nouveau and De Stijl. Her straightforward visual language is fantastic for creating a signature wall, while at the same time being able to wallpaper an entire hallway or room.
Available in the colors 84-scarlet red, midnight blue, old money green and slate grey.
